Tchiwas is a local design and strategy consultancy.

We aspire to develop innovative products, software and services and bring those new offerings and new customer experiences to domestic and foreign markets.

We focus on Taiwan and Switzerland – two relatively small countries that share similar values – to validate concepts, to improve value propositions, to define routes-to-markets and ultimately to access unparalleled opportunities in the south-eastern Asian region with its 1.6 billion people, and the broader European area with its 515 million residents.

We have a strong track-record in the technology segment, in healthcare, in software and in the luxury and retail sector. What binds our solutions together is our unique “glocal” approach, a very creative mindset and a strong technology and implementation expertise.

The last year or so has been spent assessing the pandemic, and mitigating the impact it has on our clients’ businesses. At first, our work has been around incremental changes and improvements, but we now see opportunities to launch new solutions.

Sustainability is deeply rooted in everything we do – both for our clients and for ourselves, and now more than ever we see it as the only way forward.

Taiwan

Taiwan is the perfect steppingstone for any western company willing to expand in Asia: it is a thriving and buoyant democracy with a robust legal system, flawless macro-economic stability and easy access to finance. Taiwan Central Bank has done a tremendous job in the last few decades in maintaining monetary stability for the New Taiwan dollar and had withstood several important crises.

Taiwan primary and secondary education system is highly regarded, with Taiwan ranking 5th in mathematics and 11th in Sciences on the 2018 OECD PISA index.  Tertiary education, including professional schools and universities is second to none in the region, with many first-class establishments linked with highly regarded universities in USA, Australia, Japan, and Europe. 45% of Taiwanese aged 25 to 65 have a bachelor’s degree or higher.

Taiwan has a very resilient manufacturing sector which has evolved from textiles and small appliances to high-tech, often capital-intensive, electronics, telecommunications, renewable energies and biotechnologies. The Service sector is very dynamic and accounting for roughly two-third of the GDP.

Taiwan infrastructure is very well developed, with extensive air, sea, road, rail (including a north-south bullet train) and subway networks. It is very technology oriented and has pervasive and very high-speed access to the internet.

Taiwan and Switzerland are two of the only four countries that ranked higher than 80 on WEF Global Competitiveness Report on the innovation capability pillar – highlighting both countries reputation for adopting new technologies and for boosting innovation.

Taiwan healthcare sector is extremely well equipped and staffed. As of February 2021, the country had registered only nine deaths due to Covid 19 for the whole duration of the pandemic, with less than a thousand people infected overall!

Switzerland

Switzerland occupy a special place in Europe. While not a member-state of the European Union, it is geographically positioned in between its tree biggest and most influential members that are France Germany and Italy, with which it shares similar cultural traits and the same languages: French, German and Italian.

Switzerland is a federal state with a unique system of direct democracy and a strong policy of neutrality. The latter means that Switzerland has not fought in any war since 1815. It also explains why it has been able to attract many international institutions on its soil, including the second largest centre for the United Nations.

Switzerland’s education system is very diverse, with a strong public curriculum ranging from apprenticeships, vocational schools, universities and two federal polytechnical schools that are regularly on top of world rankings. The quality of life attracts the best lecturers, and the relatively low cost of education attracts as many as 20% of foreign students (#2 worldwide). Private schools have also good reputation, in business or hotel management for instance. Switzerland has one of the world highest Nobel-per-capita ratio.

Manufacturing is Switzerland most important sector, with a strong emphasis on health and pharmaceutical goods, chemicals, machines/electronics, and precision instruments (including watches). The service sector accounts for roughly a third of exports and includes noticeably financial instruments and insurances.

Infrastructures are superb, with a very dense rail & road networks – not to forget high speed optical fibres. Switzerland is #2 on the UNDP Human Development Index, while the World Economic Forum ranks it #5 in its 2019 Global Competitive Index.

Zurich is currently holding the top spot as the most liveable city in the world, while Lausanne hold the enviable first position in the Monocle Small Cities Index (with Basel in #14).
